Results from the IOCCG ocean color algorithm working group

The IOCCG Ocean Color Algorithm working group was formally proposed at the 8th IOCCG Meeting in Florence, Italy in February 2003. To facilitate the evaluation of algorithm performance and intercomparison, the group was tasked with the assembly of two data sets - one comprised of publicly available in situ bio-optical measurements, the second of synthesized values generated from known bio-optical relationships. The former was acquired from SeaBASS and consists of coincident measurements of chlorophyll a, spectral remote-sensing reflectance [Rrs], and spectral absorption coefficients (that due to non-algal detrital and dissolved material [adg] and that due exclusively to phytoplankton [aph]). The in situ data set is available as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet via the link provided below. The synthesized data set and all accompanying documentation, including a draft of the final working group report, are available online via the IOCCG Web site. Please direct questions and comments regarding the in situ data set to the working group Chairman, Dr. ZhongPing Lee.
