Satellite-to-In Situ Match-up Results

The NASA Ocean Biology Processing Group regularly uses data archived in SeaBASS to validate the ocean color data products of various satellite-borne instruments. The analyses presented here are comparisons of spatially and temporally coincident satellite and in situ observations, more informally known as match-ups. Currently, these analyses focus on Lw(&lambda), nLw(&lambda), Kd(490), chlorophyll a, and AOT(&lambda). Bailey and Werdell (2006) provides a detailed description of the philosophy and methods used to compare the coincident observations. The OBPG also maintains a current visual description of the process to record recent modifications of the process. Many of the in situ data data are available in a compiled form via NOMAD.
