PTWG namespace for non-conforming ROIs
About PTWG
The Ocean Carbon and Biogeochemistry Phytoplankton Taxonomy Working Group (PTWG) namespace for non-conforming ROIs related to the imaging of plankton and other particles. Version 1.
PTWG Description
Last updated: 2021-03
Protocols for archiving imagery data related to phytoplankton and particles require referencing external taxonomic authorities via the SeaBASS fields scientificName and scientificNameID. However, some Regions of Interest (ROIs; i.e., imagery targets) may be defined as ‘non-conforming’, meaning that they are either not identifiable (e.g., blurry images or image artifacts) or are non-living (e.g., bead, bubble, detritus, etc.). To facilitate identification of non-conforming ROIs, custom definitions not found in a taxonomic authority must be provided in an external document file. A Phytoplankton Taxonomy Working Group (“PTWG”) custom namespace was created using plain-text YAML format to define several standardized names for common terms that are not currently defined by WoRMS or Algae Base.
If you wish to use these terms, please download this file and include it with your submission. More detailed instructions are found on the submission special requirements pages, including how to optionally create a supplemental custom namespace.
